De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis

Swollen and inflamed tendons that run along the thumb side of the wrist and attach to the base of the thumb. It causes pain and tenderness along the thumb side of the wrist when:
- Moving the thumb
- Forming a fist
- Grasping, pinching something
- Turning the wrist
- Lifting something with your arms in front of you and thumbs pointed toward the ceiling (e.g., lifting a child)
Causes:
- Overuse: jobs or hobbies that involve repetitive hand and wrist motions.
- Associated with pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Gardening
- Arthritis
